I'm doing more than trying, I'm moving forward. That's something.

I have a writing idea, something I never considered before, something that would fit me like my well-worn running shoes, something I am only talking around, instead of about, for fear of me talking it to death.

~whew~ Good.

I can be so annoying, I know. And no, I'm not working on that. Too many other things on the list.

The thing is (why is there always a thing?!), I want to talk about this with someone in the know, except I don't know if there is anyone in the know that I know, you know?

So, I move forward in faith that what I desire, I'll figure out how to accomplish.

I mean, come on, I taught myself how to float and tape Sheetrock, I home schooled Boy for 12 years (and he got into the university of his choice...yay!), I taught myself how to drive a stick, I taught myself how to bake and cook and, oh my the list goes on, but the point I wish to make is that if I did all those things, then this particular thing should be the same.

1) Figure out what I want (check).

2) Figure out how to do it (google'd! and check).

3) Dive in (in the process)!

Today, after doing the last its of research, I had a clutch moment. Can I really do this or am I deluded? Yes and yes.

But that has never stopped me before.

If it pans out, or if I flop, I'll fill you in, but for now, I gotta focus on the doing and not the telling.

I lift my glass of leftover Champagne to my success; lift your glass with me, won't you?!

Feelin' It

I'm feelin' it.

My research and work towards that writing thingamabob is coming into focus. It's thrilling and a bit nerve-racking all bunched up together forming one of those SUPER DUPER BOUNCY BALLS O'FUN! I throw it and hope like hell I can catch it, but more often than not, it has me running like a crazy person trying to snag it on the unexpected bounce off the wall.

The best part is I'm gonna have more control over what it is I offer and Momma likey!

If that wasn't enough, my last procedure (God-willing) for my left eye happened yesterday. Still have to be aware for the risks specific to me and my longass eyeball, but BOOM! it's done and it is good.

To say that I am grateful, to mention the blessings poured over me in the form of prayer and miracles and Docs that proceed with caution and concern for my well-being, to say that this has been a life-changing event, to see for the first time in my life upon waking, is to merely to begin to tell you what a monumental shift this is in my life.

Today my sweet Boy is 27. It's the oddest thing to think of him as 27, when in my head I still see this silly exuberant kiddo willing to hold Mommy's hand.

27 is a man. My Boy is a man. It's not that I have only today come to this conclusion, but it's still an almost foreign concept to my mommy heart, my mommy eyes. He's my Boy, always was, always will be.

Here's some fun Boy facts:

* I caught him stealing a kiss from a young lady BEHIND OUR SHED at the age of six. This was not the first time he tried to kiss a gurl.

* He started begging for a kitty when he was seven. No way, no how. Husband and I are dog folk: NO KITTEHS! But, because I couldn't stand to listen to his pleas any longer, I promised him that if certain (impossible) things lined up in the universe, we would indeed get a kitty. The begging stopped. Momma was always good for her word. A promise from one of us was gold. Of course, I made the provisions so ridiculous that they could never occur...except they did. And when they did, Boy was ecstatic. Us not so much. That was 19 years ago and the cat still lives. Moral of the story: Don't mess with God; He's a practical joker who always has the last laugh.

*Once, when he was four, he was upset with a friend and calling him out, using his expansive vocabulary. I overheard Boy's end of things and pulled him aside and explained that it isn't nice to say such things to a friend. Boy responded: "Mommy, he doesn't understand what I'm saying, so I'm not hurting his feelings." He had a point.

* Boy tried to skateboard in his wagon when he was eight. He fell out, was knocked out for a brief moment and sported a goose-egg that never grew hair in that spot again. This was problematic since he wore his hair in a buzz cut most of his days and folks could not resist putting their finger on that small bald spot when they saw it. Drove him INSANE! (i resisted, but always wanted to touch it whenever i saw it!).

* For years, I made him an elephant cake for his birthday. His grandmother made it for Husband and when Husband and I got married I started making it for both of them. It wasn't until he was in his late teens that he even considered anything else.

Here's the first one Boy's Gurl helped construct (i lurv the birdy she made on it's back):

* We used to tell Boy that before he was born, he looked down from his spot with God and picked us to be his parents, to be his family. He loved that story when he was younger, but it annoyed the hell out of him in the teenage years. He'd be eye-rolling and frustrated that he couldn't get us to do whatever it was he wanted, or he was embarrassed he had the lamest parents evah, and we'd be all: YOU PICKED US! Still makes me laugh.

* Boy is a gamer, but when he was younger and asked for a Nintendo we balked. No video games in our house. Period. There are better things to do with your young mind. Then, his head almost got squished by a soccer goal pole (actually, had that happened, and it was thisclose, we think it would have ended his life. it was one of those bigass poles that wasn't secured at the top) and everything changed. He got his Nintendo that Christmas. To this day, we wish we had filmed him opening that present. Best. Reaction. Ever. We still all have such fond memories of that Christmas. Remember when I got the Nintendo?! ~LOLS and happy hearts here~

I could go on and on, but I'll refrain.

When I was pregnant with Boy, I wondered about the life I carried. I wondered if I could be all that the child would need. I couldn't have been happier when he was born. I remember the moment he was handed to me like it happened this morning. I remember thinking that if anyone ever tried to harm him, they'd have to go through me. I remember thinking This is my son! I have a son! It was, and is still, remarkable.

Boy has been my joy. Sure, there have also been pain-in-the-ass moments, but that's what makes life life. The good with the not so good. The muddy valleys with the mountain highs. The eye rolls and heavy sighs countered with every conversation ended with a love ya. Throw all of it together and it truly has been my joy to be Boy's mom.

At 10am this morning, I gathered the courage to listen to my inner voice and ponied up the roughly 50 bucks for one year of Wordpress hosting for my author's site.

Just as I pressed the checkout button to complete the transaction I immediately felt giddy followed by a physical gut check.

Have I mentioned that I have no experience with WordPress, or that I have no experience with code, or that I have no idea what I'm doing? HAVE I?!

Yet, I do know I want tabs. See? Something to cling to.

This is going to be an eye-opener of learning curvature.

There I was, minding my own beeswax, and I find a message from Dear Friend on facebook asking for my address. I should mention I have never before met Dear Friend in the real lifes (yes, i know i butchered the language there), but I have actually been a recipient of her kindness before, so I knew that she was not a stalker and could be trusted with my house numbers.

I asked her what she was up to and she only said that she had run across something, some time ago, that she thought I'd like and would like to now send.

Oooooooo, Momma likey surprises.

Yesterday the mailman delivered the surprise.

Wait, let me backtrack a moment. Who could forget the Summer of Cake offsetting the Year of Strength? You know, the year Husband almost died?! The year that brought us to our knees? But then, I had this idea that if we were going to have to endure a walk through the fire, we should, at the very least, eat cake once every other week. Who could ever forget that?

One of my favorites: The Candy Bar Cake! Not particularly attractive, but deeply delish, decadent and divine!

Seriously, who could forget that glorious, butter-filled summer?

Um, not Dear Friend, that's who.

Interesting aside, our mechanic shared his love of whiskey with us as we picked up our car (he brought it up. pure coincidence). He's a Crown man, but a friend gave him some Woodford Reserve. He swears it's marvelous dahlin'. As we were talking, he walked over to a cubby hole covered by a door, opened it, reached in and pulled out a sleeved unopened bottle of the stuff.

What are they doing in that shop after hours?! That's some highbrow stuff. Do they all get dressed in their smoking jackets and pull out the heavy leather chairs and discuss world events? If so, why the hell aren't I invited?

This is my life, people. Can't make this stuff up.

My garden is FULL of 'maters and tonight the temps dip to 36 degrees. I am a nervous nelly. Will they survive? Will I get to nom their deliciousness? Will my fil get his big fat tomato a'top a biscuit?

My fingers are crossed.

As far these two beauties, they are destined for a self-dressing salad on Sunday. This salad is incredibly easy and nomalicious. Look for the edit here later today as I share that recipe in my City Bright blog. Hey! Cut me some slack. Momma needs an easy blog entry today as it is t-minus 1 day peeps! A certain couple is due home tomorrow and I have a list to mark-off!
